Story

Help Me Reach £1,500 to Teach Maths in South Africa! 🏃‍♂️📚

On 9th December, I’ll be running 10km as the first step in my fundraising journey to reach £1,500 by May. I’ll be volunteering with the University of Warwick’s Warwick in Africa (WIA) programme—an initiative that sends volunteers to teach in under-resourced schools across the continent.

As a maths tutor with a genuine passion for teaching, I’m excited for the chance to share my enthusiasm for learning and give my time to support students who deserve more opportunities. Although teachers in these schools work incredibly hard every single day, class sizes of 40–50 students per teacher mean many children simply don’t get the individual attention or extra support they need. This is why programmes like WIA are so important—they help provide that additional support so that more students can access a quality education.

This summer, I’ll be spending six weeks in South Africa, working alongside local teachers and helping students build confidence in their learning.

Your support will help fund essential teaching materials, classroom resources, and the costs that make it possible for me to take part in this programme and make a meaningful impact.

Why this matters to me:

Teaching has always been something I find incredibly fulfilling. I’ve seen first-hand how much difference the right support can make to a student’s confidence and progress—and I hope to bring that same encouragement and belief in their potential to the students I’ll be working with in South Africa.
