Hi everyone,

My name is Isha Desai, and in September 2026 I will be travelling to Bhuj in Gujarat, India with Project Care Volunteering to support a school dedicated to educating children with physical and mental impairments.

This school plays a vital role in its local community, providing education in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for children who often face significant barriers to learning. During my time there, I will be assisting with classroom teaching and supporting extracurricular programmes that help build confidence, independence, and essential life skills.

As someone with Indian heritage, this opportunity feels especially meaningful to me. Giving back to a community in Gujarat is something I feel incredibly passionate about. I strongly believe that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their circumstances, and I am truly honoured and humbled to have the chance to contribute.

This opportunity would mean a great deal to me, as working with the children and being part of the school community will help me grow in compassion, patience, and understanding, while shaping the kind of impact I hope to make in the future.

For those who would like to know more, Project Care Volunteering organises group volunteering trips for university students to schools and colleges for disadvantaged young people in India and Uganda. Founded in 2022 (and previously associated with another charity from 2012–2022), the organisation has coordinated 20+ volunteering trips and raised over £115,000 towards transformational education projects, including sanitation initiatives and the building of classrooms, playgrounds, toilets, and kitchens.
