No-one likes to see homeless people on the streets. Derby City Mission has been supporting the rough sleeper community in Derby, through meals, our nightshelters, and now through our Safe Space project, open 24/7 all year round, for a number of years

Story

Seeing homeless people on the streets is distressing. However giving them money directly is often not helpful, particularly if they have addictions. Thank you for helping us provide more long-term help. Here at Derby City Mission, we have been supporting the rough sleeper community for over a decade and now have a purpose-built Safe Space which offers rest and recovery, food, washing and laundry facilities, they can watch TV, receive counselling, medical care and advice on fighting addictions and finding suitable accommodation. This project, which opened in March 2019, operates all year round, 24/7. In the first 6 months, 116 people stayed with us, of which none are still sleeping rough. 85% are now settled in accommodation and 8% have sadly passed away.

Statutary funding does not cover the costs for this service. Your donation will help to meet food, staffing and increased heating costs. Help us provide hope and a future for those on the streets.
