Story
The Millie Wright Children's Charity exists to address inequalities in hands-on charitable support for families taking care of children with life threatening conditions. It provides practical, emotional and financial help to parents, carers and their wider families.
The charity recognises the strain and uncertainty arising from having a seriously ill child and is a big advocate of wellbeing and good mental health.
This charity is truly hands-on - they address basic needs like giving parents access to food, drinks whilst on the wards so that they don't have to leave their child's bedside at Leeds Children's Hospital.
Locally, the charity also provides a family supporter worker, toiletries, birthday boxes, hardship payments, a laundry service, referrals to other charities, saturday pizza's and signposting to other forms of help.
It also campaigns on national issues, highlighting the inequalities in support for families when their child is in hospital, this can often be in a hospital far from home and their family and friends.
I've seen the difference their support makes for families and children at a very difficult time so between June 2024 to May 2025 (if my hips and knees can take it!) I'll be running the South Downs 10km, the New Forest Half Marathon, the Goodwood GP Motor Circuit 20 miles ending with the Three Forts Challenge (27.2 miles) to raise as much money as I can.
I know times are tough money-wise but any money, however small you kindly donate, will be very gratefully received and used by the charity, they're solely funded by donations so any money is put to good use for families that need it most. Thank you.
