In memory of Roy Denham and Brian Hartnell

Island coastal walk for Mountbatten Hospice · 3 September 2026

Mountbatten is the Isle of Wight's only hospice and is known for innovation across the UK and beyond. We provide expert medical, nursing and domiciliary end of life care and bereavement support to people in their own homes, including care homes, in our Newport building and in the local hospital.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last September, something incredible happened.

What started as a challenge to walk the entire Isle of Wight Coastal Path (65+ miles) in memory of our dear friend, Roy Denham, became something so much bigger. Thanks to the unbelievable generosity of our family, friends, local businesses and complete strangers, we didn't just reach our £5,000 target – together we raised an amazing £13,062.20 for Mountbatten Hospice.

This September, Thursday 3rd – Sunday 6th September 2026, we're doing it all over again.

We'll once again be walking the entire coastline of the Isle of Wight, but this time clockwise, to raise even more money for the incredible team at Mountbatten Hospice.

This year's walk is dedicated to the memory of Roy Denham and also Brian Hartnell – two wonderful men who are deeply missed and who touched the lives of so many people. Their kindness, friendship and generosity will never be forgotten, and every mile we walk is in their honour.

Roy leaves behind his loving wife, Jenny, and their children, Tom and Amy. Brian leaves behind his loving wife, Tanya, and their children, Lana and Chloe. While no amount of time can ever fill the space they've left behind, we hope this walk honours their memory and helps ensure other families receive the same care, compassion and support when they need it most.

Mountbatten Hospice provided Roy, Brian and those closest to them with outstanding care, compassion and dignity during the most difficult of times. Their support means far more than medical care alone – they provide comfort, guidance and reassurance to patients and families throughout their journey. They rely heavily on fundraising and donations to continue delivering these vital services across the Isle of Wight.

By supporting this challenge, you'll be helping Mountbatten continue to provide that same incredible care for other local families facing the toughest moments of their lives.

Whether you can donate £1 or £100, every single contribution makes a difference. If you're unable to donate, sharing our page is just as appreciated.

Thank you for supporting us once again. Last year you helped us achieve something we never thought possible. Let's see what we can achieve together this year – for Roy, for Brian, for Jenny, Tanya, Tom, Amy, Lana and Chloe, and for every family who will need Mountbatten Hospice in the future. ❤️
