Story
Isla has had 16" cut off her hair to donate to little princess trust. To say I'm proud of her is an unstatement.
For a few years Isla has had a massive irrational fear of haircuts. She was really bad. She'd wake up crying, thinking I'd been trimming her hair in her sleep. I'd have to show her around the room before I'd brush her hair to prove there was no scissors, and i wasn't going to try anything. She would physically heave and go all clammy if you even spoke about going to a hairdressers for a trim. We did session after session at therapy on it and she eventually managed the smallest trim. Since then she's managed 2 trims of about 1cm each time after so much persuading, and even then, all day she would be physically shaking and panicking about it and then refuse to ever go again once we got home.
This week she's decided she's going to have more than half of her hair cut off and donate it to little princess trust to be made into a wig. Obviously, I took it with a pinch of salt, but was so proud that she would even consider it after how she's been for 3+ years. In October, we had to go the hairdressers twice before she would have 1cm off the ends, so her suggestion of 15 inches was insane. I am so so proud of her for doing this.
Since I wasn't sure if she would would ahead or not, she's not done it sponsored. I didn't want her to feel backed into a corner about it. So instead we are getting some donations together to give them a one off payment along side her hair.
The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions such as Alopecia.
The charity is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK.
The Little Princess Trust relies solely on the generosity of its wonderful supporters who help the charity give Hair and Hope to so many children and young people with cancer each year.
