Isobel Milton is raising money for The Royal School of Needlework

Team: Team fundraising for The Royal School of Needlework

Fragile Threads Project · 10 October 2026

The Royal School of Needlework (RSN) is the international centre of excellence for the art of hand embroidery and offers a range of courses for beginners through to advanced.

Story

On October 10th, I will take on a 25 km challenge in Kent, walking familiar routes: Valley Walk to Leeds Castle and Blue Bell Hill to Mote Park to raise money for Fragile Threads. As a child, I picked marsh marigolds and wood anemones and pressed them into family treasures; 30 years later, I know those familiar reserves have been affected by the climate crisis. Fragile Threads at the Royal School of Needlework is a project that shows these changes and explains why we need to protect these places through a craft that is also under threat: hand embroidery. You may not have a painting on your wall, but might you might have a sampler embroidered by a family ancestor. Hand embroidery is an art form that belongs to everyone, which is why I am raising money for Fragile Threads.
