Issy Bilton is raising money for PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide

Team: Team Darcy – 100km Across the Sahara Desert

In memory of Darcy Hollinson

Sahara Desert Trek · 21 November 2026

Papyrus is a young person’s suicide prevention charity. That means we provide urgent support, education, campaigns and conversations that keep children and young people safe from suicide. And above all else, we’re here. We’re always here. That’s how we save lives.

Story

Why I’m taking on the challenge of the Sahara

After nearly 30 years of service with Devon and Cornwall Police, I’m approaching retirement with a continued desire to do something that truly matters.

Through my work, I’ve seen first-hand the impact that mental health struggles can have, not just on individuals, but on families, friends and whole communities. I’ve witnessed how quickly lives can change when someone feels overwhelmed, isolated, or unable to cope.

Knowing Debbie and hearing about Darcy’s story brought all of that into sharp focus. It’s one thing to encounter these realities through your job; it’s another to see them affect the life of someone you care about.

I was proud to support Team Darcy during their previous PAPYRUS fundraising challenge, and when this 100km Sahara Desert trek was announced, I knew I wanted to be part of the team.

This challenge is my way of giving something back, raising awareness, supporting PAPYRUS’s life-saving work and standing alongside young people who may feel they have nowhere to turn.

Walking across the sands of the Sahara will be physically and mentally demanding, but it’s nothing compared to the struggles faced by many young people every day. If my steps can help even a few more of them get the support they need, then every mile will be worth it.

Thank you for supporting this challenge and for helping PAPYRUS continue its vital work.
