Story
As part of Stonegate Group, the IT & Epos department are supporting Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) who are taking a stand against suicide. That means standing against feeling rubbish, standing up to stereotypes, and standing together to show life is always worth living.
125 lives are lost every week to suicide. Suicide is now the leading cause of death for people aged 15-39, and men under the age of 50 in the UK. CALM exists to change this.
CALM do it by provoking conversation, running life-saving services, and bringing people together so they reject living miserably, get help when they need it and don't die by suicide.
The Challenge...
Over the course of 24 hours, our team will take on a continuous kayaking relay along the Grand Union Canal, supported by colleagues walking alongside on the towpath. The kayak must remain on the water at all times, crewed by a minimum of two paddlers, while the wider team helps keep the challenge moving by joining scheduled walking sections and providing support throughout the event.
To ensure the challenge runs continuously for the full 24 hours, a rota will be in place with at least four team members participating at any given time. Paddlers can swap in and out throughout the event, allowing people of all abilities and fitness levels to get involved in a way that suits them. Whether you're taking your turn in the kayak, walking a section of the canal, or cheering the team on from the side lines, every contribution plays an important part in helping us reach our fundraising goal and supporting the vital work of CALM.
