Story
My husband Peter has been a volunteer for the Samaritans for the last five years. He is now at the Putney branch which is entirely self funded and run by volunteers.
The Inner South West London Samaritans branch volunteers are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for all those suffering emotional distress. The main mission of the Samaritans is that fewer people die by suicide. Their service is free to users and they offer a confidential, safe, non-judgemental space for anyone who contacts them to explore whatever challenges they are facing. Last year the branch dealt with over 23,000 contacts.
The branch has approximately 170 unpaid volunteers. Aside from responding to callers they also offer a lot of outreach into the Community working with local schools, universities, prisons and train stations to provide support.
My contribution is to raise money for them by undertaking the Ultra Challenge London 2 Brighton, walking 100 kms on May 25-26, 2024. This is a huge challenge for me and I am doing it solo. My training starts today (all weathers included)
I will update you with photos of my training progress and my outfits!
Please do not feel any obligation, but all donations will be incredibly appreciated!
All the money raised will go directly to the Inner South West London Samaritans.
