As part of her 8th birthday present Ivy is taking on an incredible challenge in August by climbing the O2, something she has been desperate to do since her first concert. Ivy is taking on climbing The O2 and in doing so would like to raise money for IgA Nephropathy research, her chosen charity.

This cause is so vital to Ivy and our family as her dad lives with this incurable rare kidney condition every day which will result in needing an inevitable kidney transplant in the near future. The challenges her dad faces has inspired Ivy to do something brave and meaningful to help make a difference for him and for other families affected by the condition. She hopes that the money raised will help scientists and doctors continue their work towards finding better treatments and, one day, a cure. Although climbing the O2 is a big challenge for anyone, Ivy is determined to complete it with a smile, showing just how caring, strong, and thoughtful she is.

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is a kidney disease that commonly appears for the first time in young adults and can lead to kidney failure with the requirement for lifelong dialysis or a kidney transplant. Worldwide IgAN is a common cause of kidney failure and it is estimated that globally 1 in 10 patients who need dialysis treatment have kidney failure because of IgAN. At present, there is no effective treatment for IgAN and while a kidney transplant can transform the lives of IgAN patients who are on dialysis there is the risk that the IgAN may recur in the transplant and lead to loss of the transplant.

This is a partnership between the University of Leicester and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The Group has been established for over 25 years and works closely with patients, charities, including Kidney Research UK, and the pharmaceutical industry.
