Story
After 6 incredibly challenging days which tested us mentally and physically in ways which we had not imagined and which saw 2 of our amazing team taken off the mountain for medical reasons, 3 of us reached Kilimanjaro (Uhuru) peak at 9am Saturday 8th March - International Women’s day. We are all truly humbled and grateful for the generous donations to the Malala Fund.
We are a team of 5 women from mid- Devon. Between 3 - 9th March we will be climbing Kilimanjaro reaching the summit at sunrise on International Women’s Day 2025 (8th March). We are an all women team - climbers, leaders and all support staff. This IWD event supports the local female teams and workers at Kilimanjaro. In addition to this, we are raising money for the Malala Fund.
“The Malala Fund works to secure 12 years of free, safe, quality education for all girls so they can learn and lead without fear. We focus on secondary school particularly grades 7 - 12 when gender discrimination increasingly affect adolescent girls’ futures. Completing secondary school opens up opportunities for girls to make their own life choices, allowing them to reach their fullest potential
We are a group of women who are fortunate enough to have received an education and in so doing, we have benefitted from all the life choices that this brings. As girls, we took our right to an education for granted. Having met through the school that we have chosen to educate our own children, we want to support all girls and women to receive the same educational opportunities that we did. There are still too many girls across the world who do not or cannot access education particularly at senior school level.
