Story
I’ve committed to raising money to support the Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) Foundation by registering as a Charity Bib participant for this event.
Did you know that nearly half of the U.S. population (180.3 million people) is affected by a neurological disorder? Neurological conditions are now the leading cause of illness and disability worldwide. The TIRR Foundation works to improve the lives of individuals who have sustained central nervous system injuries.
Why is this important to me? My introduction to neurological injuries and diseases began during my high school capstone program. With mentorship from a University of Pittsburgh PhD candidate, I researched the effects of traumatic brain injuries on adolescent brain development. That experience sparked my interest in neuroscience and ultimately led me to pursue it as my college major.
I’ve also experienced firsthand what it’s like to live with a neurological condition. By the time of the half marathon, I will have reached the two-year mark of living with multiple disc herniations. From pain management to months of therapy, I’ve been able to regain most of my mobility.
I’ve witnessed the positive impact of TIRR both personally and professionally—through my own recovery journey and through my work with TIRR Memorial Hermann in inpatient rehabilitation. Through inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation clinics, community reintegration events, and support groups, TIRR plays a vital role in protecting and improving neurological health.
By donating to the TIRR Foundation, you are supporting advancements in neurological disease prevention, enhancing the quality of life for those affected, and helping sustain meaningful community outreach initiatives.
I have until two weeks before the event start to reach my goal. Once I do, I'll be eligible to run!
Will you help me raise money to support this incredible mission?
