Story
Recently, my grandma suffered a stroke and spent three weeks receiving care at the Neurology Acute Stroke Unit at James Cook Hospital. She was later transferred to the Zetland Ward at Redcar Primary Care Unit, where she has been undergoing rehabilitation. We have been absolutely blown away by the incredible teams looking after her. The compassion and dedication shown by every member of staff has been nothing short of extraordinary.
They’ve gone above and beyond, offering hugs, chatting with her about the birds, and even performing the occasional tap-dance routine to lift her spirits. Every person we’ve met has been a real-life angel, and I’ve seen first-hand the difference they make every single day. Knowing my grandma is in such capable, caring hands gives me so much reassurance for the journey ahead.
While visiting the hospital, I spotted a poster for Our Hospitals Charity, inviting runners to join their Great North Run team. It felt like a sign. I’ve been running a lot recently, and this is the perfect chance to put it to good use while giving back to the place that has done so much for families like mine.
Our Hospitals Charity supports patient care and staff wellbeing by funding projects that go beyond standard NHS provisions, including cutting-edge equipment, pioneering research, and enhanced staff training.
I’m aiming to raise £300 and would be incredibly grateful for any donations, big or small. Every contribution means the world and will help make a real difference.
Thank you so much for your support ❤️
