Story
On September 15th, I’m embarking on a 26-mile marathon walk in memory of my beautiful mum, to raise funds for Against Breast Cancer in the Breast Walk Ever event.
Against Breast Cancer is a small charity, funding pioneering research into new treatments and tools, and for earlier diagnosis and advice to reduce the risk of recurrence and secondary spread.
This cause is deeply personal to me. In March of this year, I lost my amazing mum to secondary breast cancer. She was first diagnosed with primary breast cancer in 2007, and sadly, it returned in December 2020. My mum bravely fought secondary breast cancer for three and a half years, showing immense strength and courage until the very end.
My mum was one of a kind. She was caring, loving, funny without even trying and selfless, always putting others before herself. She was and will always be so incredibly special to me and I miss her so much. I am so incredibly honoured that I got to call her my mum.
In her memory, and alongside my auntie, a breast cancer survivor, I will be walking 26 miles along the picturesque routes along the banks of the River Thames, starting and ending in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
Every step I take and every penny raised will contribute towards providing people with secondary breast cancer with the precious gift of time. Whether it gives them a few more months or a year, every moment is invaluable to someone with this horrible disease. I would do anything to spend one more day with my mum.
I hope she’s looking down, proud of me. Her memory will help give me the motivation and determination I need for this challenge and I’ll be thinking of her every step I take. I’m doing this for you mum. I love and miss you so much.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Together, let's honour the memory of those we’ve lost and give hope to those still fighting.
P.S. Check your chests!
