Story
On the 30th August, I'm running the Sydney Marathon in memory of my Mum and to raise money for Alzheimer's Research UK.
We sadly lost my Mum to dementia 2 years ago. Her memory faltered gradually at first, but her condition deteriorated significantly in the year before she passed.
Seeing someone you love lose their cognitive ability, personality and sense of self, along with their connections to the people closest to them, was incredibly difficult for our whole family.
Dementia is now the UK's biggest killer. 1 in 2 of us will be directly affected by it, either caring for someone with the condition, developing it ourselves, or both. Alzheimer's Research UK’s vision is a world free from the fear, harm and heartbreak of dementia.
On the day, I'll be wearing purple - my Mum's favourite colour - to remember her as I run over the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge and cross the finish line by the Sydney Opera House. Your donations are greatly appreciated. I know my Mum will be with me all the way, and all of you will be there with us too 💜
Thank you.
Jonathan
