Story
Age UK East London is a local, independent charity operating across Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Newham. Each year they support around 20,000 older East Londoners by providing flexible practical and emotional support in homes, hospitals and in the community
Tower Hamlets has the country’s highest pensioner poverty at 44%. The Borough has the highest rates of loneliness in London and in England with so many older people living alone in poverty and poor health. For example, at age 65, women can expect just six more years of good health, which is the lowest in London and almost the lowest in England.
Age UK East London help through advice services, emergency food vouchers and distributions, organising exercise classes and community groups. In addition to the home from hospital services and volunteers who aid housebound older people the charity makes a real difference to the life of older east Londoners.
With the great success of the NatWest Charity Cycle in 2022, we are back for another round, where the group will cycle a range of distances; 30, 60 and 100 miles across Kent and Surrey.
