Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge · 7 April 2023

The Catherine McEwan Foundation raises vital funds to support better treatment, better care and a better life for those people living with Crohn’s and colitis in Scotland.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

On 7 April 2023, we are climbing Yorkshire’s three peaks (Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and Whernside) in a single day to raise money for the Catherine McEwan Foundation. This is a gruelling hike of more than 24 miles.

Our nine-year-old daughter Lucy has Crohn’s disease. Having had colonoscopies, MRI scans and other tests, Lucy was diagnosed in Summer 2022. Like many children in a similar position, Lucy’s initial treatment consisted of a liquid only diet for 8 weeks. This was very challenging for Lucy. She now takes daily medication to try to keep the inflammation at bay and undergoes regular medical tests.

The Catherine McEwan Foundation helps people living with Crohn’s and Colitis (both forms of lifelong inflammatory bowel disease) access better treatment, better care and live better lives.

In December, Lucy was invited to a function hosted by the Foundation for children diagnosed with IBD. This fantastic event served as a great example of the care and love provided by the charity for children trying to cope with their diagnosis, symptoms and treatment. We wish to raise funds for future similar events where patients and families are given vital support.

As we take on our own walking challenge, ours will be a short-lived pain. However, those suffering with IBD, like Lucy, have a lifelong challenge to face and we wish to support this great charity in seeking to really make a difference.
