Story
In 2023, I suffered a brain haemorrhage during an MMA sparring session and was left paralysed on my right side, unable to talk, severely cognitively impacted and unable to feel. I was 20. Prior to that I had competed as an elite swimmer, representing Jersey at the Commonwealth Games.
Since then, the Matt Hampson Foundation has been a direct part of my recovery, supporting my physical rehabilitation once i returned to university, providing a community of people who genuinely understand what serious injury involves, and opening doors to experiences I didn't believe were possible for me anymore.
That last part matters. After a life-changing injury, your sense of what is still available to you shrinks dramatically. The Foundation pushes that back.
They support young people who have suffered serious, life-changing injuries with rehabilitation, mental health resources, and practical support that sits outside what the NHS provides. Matt Hampson was paralysed from the neck down in a rugby accident at 20 and built the Foundation from that experience.
I will be running the Great North Run in September, and taking on the Meet Your Mountain Challenge in Chamonix in June. Aiming to raise as much money as possible for this amazing and life-changing foundation.
Every pound raised funds support and sessions going to young people with life-changing injuries like me.
