Story
In Memory of My Mum, Kay – Running for Birmingham Hospice
This year I’m taking on two races, one cause, in memory of my mum, Kay, and to support Birmingham Hospice, who cared for her — and for us — with compassion, dignity, and humanity when it mattered most.
🏃♂️ Brighton Trail Marathon (run independently)
🏃♂️ Birmingham Half Marathon (running as part of Birmingham Hospice’s team)
Together, that’s 39.3 miles (63.3km) — one combined fundraising effort with a single aim:
To raise £1,000 for Birmingham Hospice
Why I’m Doing This
Birmingham Hospice supported my mum and our family through an incredibly difficult time. The care they provide goes far beyond medical support — it’s about kindness, reassurance, humour, and making people feel seen and valued right to the end.
Hospice care is vital — and it relies heavily on fundraising.
It costs £19 million a year to run Birmingham Hospice services
That’s £1,566,666 per month, or £51,506 every day
As a charity, £7.2 million of this must be raised through fundraising
What Your Donation Can Do
£264 could pay for 12 teddy bears containing recordings of a loved one’s voice — something bereaved children can treasure forever
£374 could fund a full day of community nursing, helping hospice care reach people in their own homes when they need it most
If I reach my £1,000 target, that’s the equivalent of nearly three days of community nursing, or vital comfort and memory-making support for families facing the hardest moments.
One Campaign. Two Races. One Purpose.
Thank you for any support, donation, or share. It truly means the world.
💛 For Kay. For Birmingham Hospice.
