Story
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Dementia is an all-too-common disease that I've had the misfortune of witnessing up close. I'm excited to challenge myself physically (and mentally) to hit the Richmond Marathon hard and raise some money to help Alzheimer's UK continue working to eradicate dementia.
The Challenge
I'll be running the Richmond Marathon in London on 10th September. Whilst I'm no stranger to half marathons, I've never gone the whole hog. As I'm doing this for such a fantastic cause, I'm pushing the envelope and targeting a sub-3 hour time.
I hit a new half marathon PB of 1:18:00 at the Edinburgh Half in May but am only too aware that this does not simply translate into a great marathon time, so you can be assured I'll be training hard and suffering even harder on the day for all of your donations!
The Cause
Dementia is a ruthlessly cruel disease that gnaws away at the very essence our loved ones - their personalities, their memories, their bonds. Having seen this first-hand with family members, I'd love to support the incredible work of Alzheimer's UK in:
- conducting targeted medical research into dementia care, cause, cure, and prevention;
- providing local care and support to people living with dementia, their families, and their carers; and
- campaigning to keep dementia high on the political agenda.
Any donations you can offer will make a difference, and will be hugely appreciated by a very sweaty and knackered version of me come the end of the race!
Cheers,
Jack
