Story
Hello,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you know I lost my mum (Lorna) 3 years ago however what many people may not know is how she passed.
She passed away from an aortic dissection after a surgery related infection for a stent. I won’t go into the whole ins and outs of the 4 months prior to her passing however it was a very painful time with many trips to hospital.
Fast forward 3 years I got to thinking how dangerous Aortic Dissection is, how little it's spoke about and how it's an almost "ticking time bomb" condition. How can one part of the human body fail or experience an issue which could lead to sudden death with little to no warning? We need to look into this and prevent this like we do with heart conditions and cancers etc. There must be steps we can take to protect our aortas as they are so important, however not often spoke about.
I am doing the Bristol 10k for a multitude of reasons however the main reason is to honor my mum as this year would have been her 60th. I hope to bring more of awareness to aortic dissection, hence why I'm fundraising for Aortic Dissection Awareness UK & Ireland. As I'm a firm believer in the work they do to help prevent, discuss warning signs and aid in recovery for people who have suffered from this awful condition and much more.
I'm not a runner this is will very tough for me any little donation will help get me across that finish line. Thank you so much for reading and thank you so much for donating.
