Friends of Drumross raise funds for Drumross & New Way Centres in Newtownabbey. These are used to assist with resources, events and outings provided by the day care service to adults with a learning disability. We work closely with the staff team to meet the needs and wishes of the service users.

Story

On 3rd May 2026, I’ll be taking on the Belfast Marathon to raise much-needed funds for The Friends of Drumross.

This is a huge personal challenge for me. I’ve only ever completed a half marathon before, so stepping up to the full 26.2 miles is well and truly outside my comfort zone. But I’m doing it for a cause that really matters.

Every penny raised will go towards the installation of specialist equipment, helping to make a real and lasting difference.

If you’re able to support me — whether big or small — I would be incredibly grateful. Your encouragement and donations will keep me going every step of the way.

Thank you so much for your support! Below is from the charity to explain exactly what the funds will be used for:

The service users of Drumross would love to have a Sensory Garden installed at their day centre. Sensory garden equipment for adults includes auditory instruments like outdoor drums and chimes, tactile materials such as textured panels and sand/water tables.

Also, calming elements like aromatherapy plants or fibre optic lights to reduce anxiety, promote relaxation, sensory integration, enhance cognitive stimulation and engagement by providing calming multi sensory experiences.

As the pieces of specialised sensory equipment have a high cost any funds raised will help Friends of Drumross to get closer to making this happen.
