Story
This year I am running the Great North Run for Age UK North Tyneside.
My Grandma was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. This has had a big impact on both her and my Grandad who are both in their 80s. Age UK North Tyneside’s Information & Advice team supported my Grandma and Grandad and helped them make more of life. They now receive the correct benefits and have also been able to get a blue badge which has been invaluable. This has helped them to connect with their community more easily and enjoy trips out with the family without having to worry about long walks to find parking.
My Grandma and Grandad have also been supported by Age UK North Tyneside’s specialist dementia Admiral Nurses. They have supported my Grandad in his caring role and given valuable support to them both to remain living in their own home.
I have sent a fundraising goal of £700 which will allow Age UK North Tyneside to install a defibrillator at Havelock Place. Havelock Place is a specialist housing development for people living with dementia or a cognitive impairment. The first of its kind in North Tyneside, Havelock Place was designed following extensive consultation with people living with a cognitive impairment, their families, and their carers, along with expert input from the University of Stirling and Admiral Nurses.
By installing a defibrillator at Havelock Place, Age UK North Tyneside will be able to improve the safety of the development for residents and visitors, and continue providing excellent care and support for people like my Grandma and Grandad.
