Story
Based in the heart of the Wyre Forest, KEMP Hospice offers free holistic palliative care and support to adults living with progressive life-limiting illnesses and provide support to adults, children and young people affected by bereavement.
We never charge for our care and support services; everyone eligible can access them free of charge. It costs KEMP £2.1m to provide our services and we rely on our community to help us raise around £1.9m each year so we can be here for people when they need us most.
I am a long-term admirer of the work that KEMP does for the community and believe strongly in our local hospices that do such vital work in enabling very sick people to die with dignity, love, compassion and most importantly in as little pain and in the most humane way possible.
Unfortunately, I have known of various people in both my family and my social circle that have needed the assistance of a hospice (at times particularly Kemp) and have seen first hand that invaluable work that these places provide for not only the terminally ill, but also for the families as well. When I was at school, my best friend at the times Mum, was diagnosed with terminal cancer and Kemp gave her the chance to pass away in the most peaceful way, this would not have been possible in a mainstream hospital, so I really do appreciate the invaluable work you do and the value that can be provided from these fundraising events.
The London Marathon is also a prestigious race that I have had my eyes on completing for a while, and I thought there is no better way to do this than to raise money for a local charity as well, and one that is close to the heart of myself and others around me.

About us
The London Marathon has become an annual, inspiring and colourful fixture in the world’s sporting calendar since the inaugural race on 29 March 1981: a celebration of fun, fundraising and fancy dress.
Over the years more than a million people have completed the 26.2-mile course – which runs from Blackheath to The Mall, with a spectacular finish in front of Buckingham Palace, showcasing the very best that the capital city has to offer.
What’s more, these participants have raised over a billion pounds for charity and there have been countless amazing tales of human achievement throughout the event’s history – living up to its aim of helping participants ‘to have fun, and provide some happiness and sense of achievement in a troubled world’.
