Jack Rankin MP is raising money for WINDSOR OLD PEOPLES WELFARE ASSOCIATION

Windsor Half Marathon 2026 · 27 September 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

The Windsor Old Peoples’ Welfare Association was formed in 1948 to help the widows, widowers, and elder relatives of Windsor residents who fell in both world wars. Members enjoy a home-cooked 2 course meal, companionship and meaningful activities and are collected from their home in our minibus.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The picture above is from two years ago when I ran the last Windsor Half Marathon for Thames Hospice. Many people were sceptical then about whether I could get round, me being better known for being in a pub than a gym, but get round I did! Two years later, I really need to do some exercise again as I'm older and fatter than I was in 2023 so I'm looking forward to doing this again for another excellent local charity.

The King George VI Day Centre was purpose-built by the Windsor Old People’s Welfare Association (WOPWA), a registered charity, as a lunch and social club for older Windsor residents. The Centre was opened in 1958 by her late majesty of blessed memory Queen Elizabeth II and provides a safe and friendly environment, where members are encouraged to maintain their independence and wellbeing through activities and social interaction.

I have visited the King George VI Day Centre a number of times over the years, in my time as a Windsor Councillor and now as the Member of Parliament for Windsor. I know first hand the excellent work that the volunteers do.

Each morning the King George VI minibus picks up members from all over Windsor and in the afternoon it takes them home again but they need a new mini bus and are trying to raise £30,000 to accomplish this. I hope that by running the Windsor Half Marathon this will be a small contribution to this incredibly worthwhile cause.

As you can see from their website (https://www.kinggeorgevidaycentre.com/) they need £30,000 in total and have raised £18,831 which means £11,169 is still needed - I want to help them close the gap.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
