Story
On 16 May, I will be running the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge, tackling 34km of hilly trails from Corfe Castle to Weymouth. I'll be joined by two fellow trail challengers, James and Dan.
I’ll be running to raise awareness of post-natal depression and in support of the PANDAS Foundation, a cause that resonates deeply with my family following the birth of Noah, last year.
Whether you are able to donate or not, I'd like to share a few messages in support of new mothers who may be struggling and not know about the help available:
- Post-Natal Depression (PND) is a condition that affects many families, yet it remains poorly understood and relatively unspoken about. In fact, 1 in 10 women will experience it in some form during their first year as a mother, with 50% never diagnosed.
- We often say it 'takes a village,' but modern society can leave many new parents feeling isolated. While many often ask about the baby, I'm running for PANDAS to remind us all to ask about the parent. Instead of waiting for them to ask for help; be their village. Break through the 'I'm fine' by asking the second question—'How are you really doing?'
- Among the fantastic support that PANDAS provide, they offer a support-line for parents and pair mothers up with those who have had similar experiences. You can find out more here https://pandasfoundation.org.uk/how-we-can-support-you/resources/
Thank you for taking the time to read, and for any donations you can give to PANDAS which will be greatly appreciated by them and the parents they help.
