Story
Hi and Welcome to my justgiving page for Aortic Dissection Awareness UK and Ireland: https://aorticdissectionawareness.org/
I'd like to give you a bit of background as to how I have ended up working with this charity.
My Dad, Nick Smith (the ginge pictured above) suffered an Aortic Dissection in June 2017. An aortic dissection is a tear within the inner layers of the aorta. The aorta is the main artery in the body and delivers blood to the brain, arms and vital organs.
40% of people die instantly and the fatality rate increases each hour the condition is left untreated.
My Dad somehow pulled through - We think it must have been the 4 tinnies he had beforehand!
Since his AD occurred we have both been part of the Aortic Dissection Awareness charity which is the voice of Aortic Dissection patients and their families in the UK & Ireland.
When we first joined the group it had approx 300 members, we now have over 1,000 to date. My dad and I have attended many events throughout the UK to support the charity and other families affected by this condition.
The charity helped my Dad enormously during his recovery and helped us both understand his diagnosis and his condition. It also made us realise that we weren't alone as I barely knew what an Aorta was before this and to receive support from others in the same boat was so reassuring when we needed it most!
I am really proud to be representing ADA-UKI and fighting under the name of ADA-BOY-JACK at this boxing event 🥊 I am putting my face on the line (There are some big guys in training with me!)
