Story
Battles to overcome physical and mental health challenges have formed a large part of the lives of those closest me.
My mum was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (an autoimmune disease) in her mid twenties. The disease took hold aggressively and she soon found herself in a life changing situation. Unable to work, unable to exercise and unable to enjoy life without discomfort and pain, her mental health began to deteriorate.
She continues to face her own challenges on a daily basis. Challenges which have the power to strip away dreams and ambitions and keep her caged from many of the things we take for granted in life. With her unwavering determination and adventurous spirit she would love nothing more than to get on a bike and set off towards the horizon. So it's with my mum on my shoulder that I set off on an adventure for both of us.
I aim to complete a solo and unsupported 3000km cycle across Europe, headed for Stalag Luft III, (The prisoner of war camp famous for the 'The Great Escape' of WW2). A place where courage, hope and action triumphs over fear.
I ride with respect to anyone going through times of hardship and in support of 'Adventure Therapy', a charity which helps improve the emotional and physical wellbeing of children, young people and adults with mental health conditions, learning disability, physical disability, life-threatening or life-limiting illnesses and life-changing conditions, through outdoor and adventure-led activities.
Any donations are greatly appreciated, your support makes a positive difference in challenging and complex lives. Thank you for your kindness and support.
