Story
On the weekend of 14–16th July 2023, I’ll be attempting to run three marathons in three days at a running event in Surrey, to raise funds for Bowel Cancer UK.
I’ve run marathons and ultramarathons before, so I’ve run further than a marathon distance in one day more than once; I’ve even run ten half marathons in ten days before, but I’ve never attempted to run back to back marathons, so three days in a row is a serious challenge, and I’m quite scared!
I’m doing this because a lovely friend is currently undergoing treatment for bowel cancer with the most incredible strength and sense of humour, and I’d like to help raise some awareness of the symptoms as well as some money for a great charity. Three marathons is 78.6 miles, so I thought £786 felt like a nice fundraising target!
I have a couple of minor running injuries I’m trying to get on top of at the moment, and I’m also hoping the weather cools down a bit for that weekend… but hey, let’s give this a go!
Bowel Cancer UK are the UK’s leading bowel cancer charity. They fund targeted research, provide expert information and support to patients and their families, educate the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment and care.
As they say: “We’re here to stop people dying of bowel cancer.”
