Story
Meet Finnley Rupert Such (affectionately known by his older brother as “Frupert”).
At just one day old, Finn was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (ToF) - a life-threatening (when untreated) congenital heart condition which, without treatment, is fatal for ~90% of children by young adulthood.
In children with ToF, four major heart defects prevent the heart from delivering enough oxygen-rich blood to the body. Finn's ToF was undetected during pregnancy.
On 29 December 2025, Finn underwent a complete repair of his heart via open-heart surgery. Today, he is recovering amazingly well.
Handing your child over for open-heart surgery is something no parent is ever prepared for. From the moment we arrived at Alder Hey, we were met with extraordinary skill, care and compassion. The surgeons, nurses and wider cardiac team didn’t just treat a condition - they supported our whole family through one of the most frightening moments of our lives.
Thanks to Alder Hey, Finn now has a future full of possibilities.
As a small way of saying thank you, I’ll be running my first marathon - the Manchester Marathon on Sunday 19 April 2026 - and hope to raise £2,000 to donate to the hospital.
