Swim Serpentine 2024 · 14 September 2024 ·

Mental ill health is no respecter of persons. Clergy support their wider community but the nature of the work can result in feelings of stress and burnout. St Luke’s has helped the clergy to flourish for 130 years. With your help we can continue to offer support to those that support us.

Story

WE DID IT!

After a few days of anxiety following an unexpected water temperature drop to just 15.5 degrees, we both completed our Swim Serpentine challenge of 2 miles in great spirits.

Absolutely chuffed to say Niki smashed it in 1 hour 49 minutes and I cruised in a little later at 2 hours 16 minutes. It was a fantastic day - the sun was shining and conditions couldn't have been better. We really enjoyed the event and are already planning our next challenge for 2025!

We'd both like to thank Lucy and her colleagues at St Luke's for Clergy for asking us to swim for them and organising the day, our families and friends for cheering us on throughout our swim and EVERYONE who sent messages of support and generously donated to this small but rather fabulous charity.

See you there next year?!

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Having spent the past year enjoying a weekly open water swim together in water temperatures ranging from 5 to 23 degrees, we have (perhaps madly) agreed to take on the Swim Serpentine challenge to raise funds for St Luke's for Clergy.

We have found open water swimming in all weathers to be sometimes challenging but always life affirming and mostly great fun! There is no doubt our weekly swim contributes to our own wellbeing and it is with this in mind that we willingly agreed to support St Luke's for Clergy.

St Luke's for Clergy are a leading charity in clergy wellbeing and mental health, offering a range of preventive resources and services. These have been shown to reduce isolation, increase self-awareness and foster good self-care. They help clergy to flourish in their ministry.

So, with the goal of each achieving 2x laps of the Serpentine - a distance of 2 miles - we hope to combine a sense of personal achievement along with enough funds raised for St Luke's for Clergy to make a difference.

Please do donate what you can - let's all trigger those feelgood hormones!

Big thanks,

Jacky & Niki
