About the Charity: BANA (British Acoustic Neuroma Association)
BANA is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting people living with acoustic neuromas — a type of non-cancerous brain tumour that affects hearing and balance, and can impact facial nerves.
The charity provides trusted information, emotional and peer support, and a community of understanding for those navigating life before and after diagnosis, treatment, or surgery.
My Story
Earlier this year, I celebrated my birthday surrounded by friends and family at a Bristol Bears game — a brilliant day, but also the first time I mentioned something odd: I couldn’t feel the right side of my face. At the time, I brushed it off and carried on with life as normal.
By mid-April, the symptoms worsened. I began experiencing regular dizziness and persistent headaches, which started interfering with my daily routine. Encouraged by loved ones, I finally sought medical advice.
I'm a full-time sports coach in a primary school, and even as the physical and emotional challenges mounted, I remained committed to supporting the children I work with every day.
Eventually, I was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma.
Right now, I’m waiting for surgery. I’m staying as active and positive as I can, thanks to the incredible support of BANA, my family, and my friends.
Why This Day Matters
This Charity Golf Day is not just about the sport — it’s about raising awareness of a condition many have never heard of, and supporting a charity that’s made a real difference in my life.
