Story
15 people are diagnosed with a sarcoma every day in the UK In 2019 I was diagnosed with a large Liposarcoma in my thigh. I was fortunate to be under the excellent team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. The sarcoma was located near to the main nerve in my leg and the artery so the surgery to remove it was delicate and challenging . After 5 years of 6 monthly MRIs and consultant appointments, I was finally discharged in February this year, cancer free. All I have left to show for it is an 8” scar. I have been very lucky .
I've chosen to complete the Swim for Sarcoma challenge, swimming 15km in 31 days for Sarcoma UK, a national charity that funds vital research, offers support for anyone affected by sarcoma cancer and campaigns for better treatments.
Sarcoma is a type of cancer that develops in the bone and soft tissue. It is difficult to diagnose and one of the hardest to treat. By supporting me, we can help change this. Your donation will help researchers find answers, keep the specialist Support Line open, and raise awareness to improve treatment and standards of care.
Your donations will go so far in helping the sarcoma community:
💙 £1 Could cover the cost of 12 texts to the support line.
🥼 £5 Could purchase 50 petri dishes, which researchers use to grow cells in the laboratory.
🔬 £30 Could fund one hour of use of a high-powered laboratory microscope.
It can happen to any of us. Thank you for your support!
