Jacqueline's fundraiser for WellChild

Jacqueline Palmer is raising money for WellChild
In memory of Chris Hill

Walking the Offa's Dyke Path, Northern Section, from Montgomery to Prestatyn · 3 August 2026

WellChild is the national charity for seriously ill children. Thousands of children live with complex medical needs. Many spend months, or years in hospital because there is no support enabling them to leave. We exist to give these children the best chance to thrive: at home, with their families.

Story

From 3-9 August 2026 I'll be walking The Offa's Dyke Path (Northern half) from Montgomery in mid Wales to it's end point in Prestatyn in N Wales, raising money for WellChild.

I'm asking for your support to help raise at least £500.

Two years ago, from 16-22 July 2024, I walked the southern half of Offa's Dyke path from Chepstow to Montgomery, starting from the coastal flats of the Severn Estuary.

Now, it's time I completed the rest of the path so, on 3rd August, I'll be returning to the exact spot, 1.5 miles outside Montgomery, where I finished two years ago.

From there I'll be doing 83 miles of walking in 6 days (plus one rest day) which will take me through The Marches, the beautiful borderland between Wales and England, the limestone cliffs above the Dee Valley, the peat moors of Llandegla, the Clwydian Range above the Vale of Clwyd (which includes an ascent of Moel Famau which, at 1,821ft, is the highest point in North East Wales) and the northern coastal plain at Prestatyn where Offa's Dyke Path ends at the Irish Sea,

The path follows the route of the ancient Offa's Dyke fortification and the boundary between Wales and England with a total ascent of 13,463 ft through some of the most stunning landscapes in the UK.

WellChild provide funding for very sick children to be treated at home in familiar surroundings and amongst loved ones instead of in medical institutions where children can feel lonely and scared.

Also, my late cousin, Chris Hill, worked in PR for WellChild until his sudden, untimely death in 2023 at the age of 59. I'm doing this walk in his memory and for all the wonderful things he did for WellChild.

Itinerary:-

Day 1 - Aug 3 - Montgomery to Welshpool (Buttington Bridge), 12 miles, height gain 1,673 ft

Day 2 - Aug 4 - Welshpool (Buttington Bridge) to Llanymynech, 11 miles, 300 ft

Day 3 - Aug 5 - Llanymynech to Chirk, 14 miles, 2,690 ft

Day 4 - Aug 6 - rest day

Day 5 - Aug 7 - Chirk to Llandegla, 15 miles, 3,000 ft

Day 6 - Aug 8 - Llandegla to Bodfari, 18 miles, 3,600 ft

Day 7 - Aug 9 - Bodfari to Prestatyn, 12.5 miles, 2,200 ft

The southern half of the Path was a real test of physical endurance. I know the northern half will present its own unique challenges, so I hope I can count on your support.

Thank you.
