Story
This page is dedicated to raising funds for the Aortic Dissection Awareness charity. In loving memory of our dear mum, wife, sister & one of the kindest souls to ever exist, Lara Chapman. Mum dedicated lots of her time raising awareness for aortic dissections & related diseases.
To the light of many people’s life, the glue to our family, the happiest human being there ever was & the strongest most beautiful woman to walk the earth, this is for you.
Mum suffered an Aortic Dissection back in February 2023, resulting in major emergency surgery with a low chance of survival. Of course Larsy being the fighter she always has been, she defied the odds. After 3 years recovering and living life to the full, she started to feel unwell again.
On Thursday 5th March 2026, she went to A&E after experiencing some symptoms and the doctors discovered a pseudo aneurysm on the anterior of her aorta, alongside a leaky heart valve, both of which had stemmed from the original surgery.
Mum knew what was going on with her body, despite the hospital not really being sure. She was always very aware of aortic symptoms after the years of research and also as a result of her mum, our beloved Nanny Mags, suffering an aortic dissection and a surgery later on to fix an abdominal aortic aneurysm which unfortunately meant she passed in 2021.
As a result of mums leaking aorta, mums heart deteriorated and she was placed on life support meaning she was no longer strong enough for surgery & she devastatingly passed away on Tuesday 31st March 2026.
This condition is extremely rare and in an awful lot of cases has a very high mortality rate as it is often misdiagnosed or there isn’t enough knowledge and expertise to deal with it adequately in time.
Mum was always trying to raise awareness and make sure people knew about Aortic Dissection as it is such a complex condition that we have unfortunately been affected by multiple times now.
Mum will be so dearly missed and we would love for anyone who knew her to please donate to the charity and help spread some awareness about Aortic Dissection. We urge you to read up on this and educate yourselves to prevent anyone from going through this & to raise more awareness.
Thank you, from all of Lara’s family who are heartbroken at this difficult time.
Larsy, we love you so much and we will miss you always & forever ❤️
