Great North Run 2025 · 7 September 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans helps all serving and ex-Service men and women who have lost limbs, or lost the use of limbs or eyes, to rebuild their lives by providing rehabilitation activities and welfare support.

Story

On the 7th September I’m taking part in something I never thought I would, a half marathon. Anyone that knows me knows I am more suited to the weight section of the gym rather than pounding the pavements but I wanted to do something that would push me and be a challenge. Having said that, it won’t be as challenging as what the ex service personnel I am raising the money for have been through. I have always been a huge supporter of armed forces charities and incredibly inspired by veterans stories and resilience. If they can get through what they have, I can run this race on their behalf. Please feel free to read below about the incredible charity I am running for. Thank you for taking the time to read my page and any help whether that be a donation or a share would be incredibly appreciated. All the best, Jade

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans, is dedicated to assisting serving and ex-Service men and women who have suffered life-changing limb loss or the loss of use of a limb, an eye or loss of sight. We support these men and women in their communities throughout the UK and overseas.

We work tirelessly for our Members when the conflicts that have affected their lives are no longer a focal point in the nation’s media. Since 1932, we have been the only national Service charity that supports limbless veterans for the duration of their lives. Our Members range from the youngest amputee veterans to those who fought in WWII, some having lived with limb loss for more than half a century. Modern medicine transforms the physical injury, but it is a complicated process to treat the emotional trauma and related lifelong health problems.

Blesma provides a network where Members not only enjoy support from our professional Welfare Team, but where they have the opportunity to engage with others who have similar injuries and backgrounds to themselves, building an important fellowship with each other to overcome everyday battles.
