Robin Hood Half Marathon 2025 · 28 September 2025 ·

Whether it’s 13.1 miles or a mighty mile – Team Rainbows is running with purpose. By sponsoring them in the 2025 Robin Hood Half and Mini Marathon, you’re helping bring comfort and compassion during the toughest of times.

Story

Have you ever got in the car and arrived at your destination, thinking *I’m not sure how I got here*? That’s one way of describing the last 16 months, 23 days, 7 hours and 45 minutes since losing Harris. The difference is, you never reach your final destination — grieving is a never-ending journey.

Time is such an abstract concept. So much has changed, yet time has stood still. It’s a gift we all too often take for granted — wishing the day away to get to bed, the week away to reach the weekend, counting down the days to retirement. We forget to live in the present, caught up in worrying about what lies ahead.

Harris taught us about the gift of time. And like all gifts, it’s most valuable when we notice it, cherish it, and use it with intention. This is part of his legacy — one that lives with us every day.

With this in our hearts, myself, Mal (Harris’s brother), and Neil will be running the Robin Hood Half Marathon — not only to continue Harris’s legacy, but also to raise money for Rainbows Hospice.

Living in the moment is at the very heart of Rainbows. This became so clear during the final month of Harris’s life, when they wrapped their arms around us and helped us cherish time — making every moment count, knowing it would become part of the beautiful 22 years, 33 days, 10 hours and 50 minutes we were lucky enough to share.

With each donation you make, you’re giving another family the gift of time.

As a charity, Rainbows is almost entirely dependent on people like you to provide the funds that keep their services going.

Rainbows cares for hundreds of families every year who have a baby, child or young person with a serious or terminal illness that means that their lives will be shorter than most.

By donating you will be helping to support babies, children, young people and their families living with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions, in the East Midlands.

Rainbows provide specialist care and emotional support for babies, children and young people with serious or terminal conditions and their loved ones, so they can enjoy their time together as a family, for as long as they have.
