CANCER….. Something we all think will never happen to us or our families until it does and it has!!
Not many people know as yet as we are still coming to terms with the diagnosis ourselves but my mum was diagnosed with stage 2 Breast cancer in February! We are trying to protect the little ones of the family from having to have this discussion with them too so if we could please ensure NO conversations are had around them please.
My mums cancer diagnosis has come as a huge shock as only 18 months ago she had a mammogram done and this come back clear. Over Christmas my mums dog had jumped up at her and she felt a pain in her chest and when she touched it she felt the lump. Not wanting to dampen the Christmas spirit mum never mentioned this to anyone until the christmas holidays were over and she was back at work. Mum had then contacted the doctors and they had asked her to come in straight away. Between then and now there has been lots of appointments from scans, biopsies, port fitting etc and mum has been nothing short of a legend, theres been lots of laughs, tears and hugs shared.
My mums cancer is curable and her chemotherapy treatment will start on 25th February 2025!
So far the rapid response, care and support my mum has received it just felt right to give something back. This year my mum will be turning the fine ol age of 55!! And with that in mind I took to the internet to find something ‘fun’ to do and thats when I come across the CoppaFeel Trek!!!!! Taking place just after her birthday and I thought this is it. Having never trekked myself this will be a challenge but I’m looking forward to taking this on with Michaela who I know will be fuming when I start slipping 2 steps behind!! Like most things I do I will tackle this with lots of laughs and with my mum in mind I’m sure we’ll whizz through it! 🤣😝
Please if you can donate anything however big or small it will be very much appreciated. PS wish me luck and don't forget Michaela too as she’ll be pushing me along!!!
CoppaFeel! are the UK’s only youth focused breast cancer awareness charity, and we’re on a mission to get every 18-24 year old checking their chest.
We educate people on the signs and symptoms of breast cancer and encourage them to check their chests regularly, so that if they notice something unusual they are empowered to contact their GP and advocate for themselves. We do this because when diagnosed early and accurately, breast cancer treatments are more effective and survival rates are higher. Early detection truly can save lives.
