Action on Postpartum Psychosis supports women and families affected by Postpartum Psychosis (PP) across the UK. We provide information and peer support, facilitate research into PP, raise awareness of this severe postnatal mental illness and we campaign for improved services.

Story

My Story

Action on Postpartum Psychosis are a charity close to my heart. After experiencing postpartum psychosis in 2021 after the birth of my daughter and a relapse of psychosis in 2024, APP have offered not only myself, but my family support to help us navigate life after this illness.

When I experienced postpartum psychosis, I was in complete shock as I hadn't heard of the illness. I didn't know it was a possibility following childbirth, so not only was I coming to terms with what had happened, I was having to learn about the illness and understand what my mind had gone through.

That is why I am taking part in the miles for mums challenge, hosted by APP. The goal is to help raise awareness of PP to help other mums and families navigating this scary maternal mental illness.

I will be walking a total of 43 miles over the month of May. This is the distance from my home to the Mother and Baby Unit I was admitted to.

I will use this time to reflect and to notice how far I have come and want to inspire other mothers who are experiencing the same.

About APP

Our life changing peer support network helps women and families affected by postpartum psychosis feel understood, supported and less isolated.
