James's LEJOG Cycle for Long Covid Support

James Ainsworth is raising money for Long Covid Support

Cycling from Lands End to John o' Groats · 10 June 2025

Our mission is to improve the futures of people with Long Covid by ensuring equitable access to high quality healthcare, employment rights and welfare services through peer support, health and work advocacy and research engagement.

Story

I'm cycling the length of the UK to raise money for Long Covid Support.

This a cause that means a lot to me. Over the last two and a half years my partner, Sarah, has been fighting against the immense impact that Long Covid has had on her life. She went from being an incredibly active runner, cyclist and highly competitive dinghy sailor (winner of 2022 RS Eurocup - RS200) to having to use a wheelchair to get around her home.

Fortunately she is now showing solid and consistent signs of recovery. This has taken a huge amount of support from both her family and myself, but also her employer, the NHS, the Long Covid Clinic and private doctors and physiotherapists.

Sarah, her family and I have learnt how difficult it is to navigate and access support services to provide her with the tools she has needed to progress with her recovery. Long Covid Support aims to provide mechanisms and routes for people with Long Covid to share their experiences, data, insights and evidence of the challenges, impacts and solutions.

The charity has five distinct goals:

1. Build a community of support and a network for change.

2. Accelerate the search for treatments.

3. Push for access to dedicated health and care services.

4. Enable access to appropriate work, welfare and wider support.

5. Prevent new cases of Long Covid.

We know first hand how vital and appreciated any help with recovering from Long Covid is.

Sarah's determination and optimism over the last couple of years has been inspiring and, whilst a cycle ride is nothing in comparison, I will be cycling 1,016 Miles and climbing the equivalent of 1.7 Mt Everests.

Any donations to Long Covid Support are greatly appreciated, thank you!
