100 km Challenge

Campaign by Wetwheels Foundation (RCN 1148600, SC051304)
Wetwheels Torbay is our first boat in Devon and will also serve Dorset & Somerset. The boat has kindly been donated so all funds to this page will go towards subsiding trips for participants.

Story

Hi there – my name is James Ashton, and I have spent all of my life enjoying the sea around Shaldon and the Torbay area as a keen swimmer, diver and fisherman. In 2017 I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease and since then, with the support of my wonderful friends and family, I have been battling this horrible disease.

I am delighted to be supporting the arrival of Wetwheels in Torbay - Wetwheels is a specially designed powerboat ensuring everyone can access the water with a safe, barrier-free, enriching experience. All disabled people of all ages can drive the boat, and it is shared with family and carers. I know just what an enormous difference this makes to so many lives, having enjoyed my own adapted boat, Thundercat.

The new vessel is being built on the Isle of Wight and the journey to Torbay is 100 km. I will be static cycling that same distance over a period of 50 days. The money we raise will enable local disabled people to get onboard Wetwheels Torbay and benefit from this magical opportunity – thank you!
