James & Becky in Kenya 2026

James Tomlinson is raising money for Derby County Community Trust

Rams in Kenya 2026 · 16 May 2026

An exciting trip to Kenya in 2026 to spend time volunteering at schools in a developing areas of the country, in partnership with Derby County Community Trust.

Story

Rams in Kenya is an incredible annual trip to schools in the slums of Nakuru, Kenya. It brings together Derby County fans, Derby County Community Trust supporters and anyone with a passion for helping others, to take on the trip of a lifetime — making a real difference to the lives of children in the project’s partner schools. Since 2012, more than 500 volunteers have taken part in this unforgettable adventure, giving their time, energy and hearts to support children who need it the most.

For us, the motivation to take part runs deep. Working in public sector roles, we’ve always tried our best to make a positive difference to those around us. However, since the sudden loss of loved ones and our own personal battle with cancer, we’ve come to see just how fragile life really is. The last few years has really changed our perspective, reminding us how important it is to embrace new experiences, continue to help others and truly live life to the fullest.

That’s why, in May 2026, we’re stepping out of our comfort zone and joining the next wave of volunteers for this life-changing journey. We’ll be using our own skills and strengths to make a meaningful contribution to this wonderful initiative. We know this adventure will change lives — not just for the children and communities we’ll meet, but for us too! With that in mind, we will be self funding our accommodation, food and flights to ensure 100% of your donation reaches the charity.

Together with Derby County Community Trust and African Adventures, we’ll be working in schools that provide free education for children from underprivileged backgrounds. During our time there, we’ll get involved in all sorts of activities — from teaching and coaching to construction and land cultivation. Our aim is to support both students and teachers, helping to create safe, inspiring spaces that are fit for purpose, with improved safety measures and sanitation.

We believe every child deserves an equal chance at a bright future — but sadly, that isn’t the reality for so many. With every donation, no matter how big or small, you’ll be helping to change that. Your support can make a genuine difference to children in our world, who need it the most.

Thank you so much for your encouragement, kindness and generosity. Your support in every way really does mean a lot to us.
