Running for Mike – 3 Marathons, 3 Weeks, 1 Important Cause
In April 2026, I’ll be taking on the biggest physical and mental challenge of my life: running three marathons in three consecutive weekends – Paris on the 12th, Manchester on the 19th, and finishing with London on the 26th.
Why? Because in summer 2024, my stepdad Mike was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) – a brutal, progressive illness that affects the brain and nerves. It slowly takes away the ability to move, speak, eat, and eventually breathe – while the mind remains unaffected. It’s heart-breaking to witness, both for the person living with it and for those around them.
Mike has always been someone full of life. Fun-loving, quick to laugh, and armed with a relentless supply of dad jokes (some better than others), he’s the kind of man who brings warmth into every room. He’s always been there for me without a second thought since he came into my life 30 years ago, to give honest advice, solid support, and plenty of home truths when I needed them most.
Even if he supports City (nobody's perfect), he’s one of the best people I know.
This challenge is for him – and for the thousands of others affected by MND. I’m aiming to raise £5,000 for the MND Association, a charity doing vital work to support families, raise awareness, and fund the research we urgently need to find a cure.
Training’s already underway – so if you fancy joining me for a few miles, I’m always up for some company (especially if you’re faster than me).
Anything you can give – whether it’s a donation, a share, or just some encouragement – means the world.
Let’s do this for Mike.
