Story

This fundraising effort is deeply personal, a way to honour the memory of my late father, Robert "Bob" Chase. Dad always had a deep love for Dartmoor's wild and rugged beauty. He often spoke of its ancient history and the sense of peace he found there, a peace he so desperately sought. I know he'd be incredibly proud, and probably a little worried, to see me taking on this challenging hike. Every step I take across those unforgiving moors will be a tribute to him and the values he instilled in me.

For those who remember my dad, he was the life of the party with his infectious laugh, dazzling smile and not too shabby dancing. His cooking, especially his BBQ skills, were legendary. He always saw the good inside of everyone, and would put his family, friends and strangers above himself.

The money raised will go to Help for Heroes, an organisation that provides crucial support for mental health and wellbeing to veterans and their families, a cause that became tragically close to our family's heart. Having served in both the Royal Navy and the Prison Service, Dad understood the unique challenges faced by those who dedicate their lives to service. He always admired Help for Heroes' dedication, and given his own struggles, this cause feels particularly poignant. By supporting them, I hope to help others find the support they need and ensure that Bob's memory lives on through their vital work.
