Story
Hi Guys,
We hope you have the time to read our page and help mine and my family’s goal to raise funds for the Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity Foundation by supporting me in my quest to complete the London Marathon in April 2024!
We will be forever indebted to the amazing team of doctors, nurses and all the support staff at this wonderful hospital which saved our little boy Finn's life in June 2023.
Finn was born with a Duodenal Atresia which is a rare congenital condition and occurs in about 1 in 6,000 births. In simple terms Finn was born with a blockage in his bowel which required corrective surgery within 36 hours of his birth.
Our journey began during Finn's pregnancy whereby we received the news prenatally that Finn had a suspected Duodenal Atresia. After being born at Heartlands Hospital Finn was stabilised and transferred to BCH within 12 hours of birth by a Critical Care Ambulance and within 24 hours he was then operated on by the incredible surgical team led by Consultant Paediatric Surgeon Mr Michael Singh. The operation was a success and Finn was then cared for by the doctors and nurses on the Neonatal surgical ward (NSW) until discharge.
The level of professionalism and care that the staff demonstrated to our little boy was truly humbling, everyone who met Finn would comment on his hair and during a night shift he was was given the nickname " Tin, Tin" for his wild hair! Finn started to recover from his operation and after 2 and a half weeks he was finally able to come home to his two big brothers and the rest of his family.
There will never be enough money we could give to the hospital to thank them for what they did for our little boy and for the amazing treatment Finn received but also the support they gave to us as Finn's parents; from the medical/nursing team, the midwifery service, all the volunteers to the clinical psychologist who all made such a difference to our experience which we will never forget.
So what we can do is try and raise some much needed funds for the hospital and the work they do for thousands of family’s across the country that they support in difficult times. No parent ever wishes to have to need to use a children's hospital but we feel fortunate that we have such services available when needed.
Therefore we would be very appreciative if you could support us with a donation to help reach our target of £5,000 however big or small all will be very gratefully received.
Thank you from James, Amy and family x
