Different Strokes helps younger stroke survivors to optimise their recovery by offering rehabilitative services, information and advice. Different Strokes is run by stroke survivors for stroke survivors.

Story

Hi everyone, this year on 26th July I shall reach the grand old age of 70! I would like to celebrate this milestone by raising money for Whitstable Different Strokes Group of which I am the coordinator and also a stroke survivor. The group is self funding and monies raised will go towards paying for activity and exercise instructors and room hire. My challenges for the year are:

a 10km run in March; a half marathon in early July and a 70 mile walk later in July.

If you would like to support me I would be very, very grateful (WD40 would not go a miss!).

Every year 100,000 people have a stroke and a 1/4 of these people are under the age of 65. That's 25,000 younger people whose lives are changed in an instant.

Stroke is also the single biggest cause of disability in the UK, but it's not always the visible disabilities that stroke survivors have to contend with, debilitating fatigue, cognitive problems and personality changes can also be a lifelong challenge, preventing them from returning to work or bringing up a young family.

Different Strokes seeks to empower younger survivors to reclaim their lives.

Thank you
