The story so far!

Having been employed as a member of the fundraising team at Overgate Hospice for a little over a year now, I am constantly blown away by the care our team of doctors and nurses provide. Whether it's respite or palliative care on our inpatient unit, or diversional therapies and activities in our Day Hospice, people right across our community in Calderdale can be reassured that their families, their friends, and their loved ones who may find themselves at Overgate Hospice are receiving all of the love and support they could possibly hope for as they face the hardest time of their life.

But this isn't enough.

By now you'll have heard all about Overgate Hospice's Big Build Appeal, which is set to revolutionise the face of care in Calderdale. Our current facilities are very much a product of their time, with 12 patients needing to share two bathrooms on our inpatient unit, and only 4 private rooms. In the final hours of a patient's life, the last thing they should have to do is share a bathroom with 11 other individuals and their visitors.

The Big Build Appeal will change all of that!

I won't list all of the ways in which the Big Build Appeal will transform the experiences of our community's most vulnerable, but with the creation of a state of the art unit with 16 individual rooms, all of which are en-suite, the privacy and dignity of our patients will be safeguarded and ensured for generations to come.

In November 2025 I will be trekking in the Sahara desert to help raise vital funds for Overgate Hospice's Big Build Appeal! If anyone knows me, they'll know that I really struggle with the moderate heat of the English summers, so facing the heat of the Sahara will be a whole other challenge for me! I'm not asking you to come along with me, I'm simply asking for a donation to spur me on and help get that new inpatient unit built!
