Story

Thank you for visiting my page. As you know, I’ll be celebrating my bat mitzvah this year and in so doing I want to give back and this is why I have chosen to climb 2 mountains in the lake district

For those that don’t know, my transition from primary school to secondary school was daunting for me. In its simplest form, it was a big change. Going from my incredibly nurturing, one form entry primary school, that was in walking distance from home, along with my brothers, and a circle of friends I’d known since age 3 (and in some cases younger!) To going to a secondary school, a bus ride away, with only knowing a handful of people, a bag to carry, lessons all over the place, was simply overwhelming.

I managed the first 2 weeks and then I suffered what I know now was anxiety.

My anxiety hit me like a lorry, I struggled to sleep, I couldn’t quite explain why I didn’t want to go to school, and it was tough! Tough for me and tough for my parents.

We tried, counselling, play therapy, nothing really helped. My school were amazing in supporting me through. However, my big turning point came when I filled in one day on the netball team.

For me, everything changed! I was with a group of girls, on a mission to support each other and win the game against another school. I joined the team and helped them score 7 of the 9 winning goals!

Sport, has been the making of me! It has helped me gain confidence on and off the pitch, it has helped me make friends and has enabled me to to keep my anxiety at bay.

Surprisingly, I’m not alone. Many children like me suffer and I would love to create something that can support other children suffering from anxiety through sport.

We have found a charity who does exactly that, Sport in Mind ® is an award-winning mental health charity (unaffiliated to Mind and not part of the local Mind network) that was formed in Reading, Berkshire in 2010 with a simple mission:

"To improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems through sport and physical activity"

they are the UK’s leading mental health sports charity and deliver physical activity (sport, walking, dance and movement, gardening and exercise sessions) projects in partnership with the amazing NHS in order to aid recovery, promote mental well-being, improve physical health, combat social isolation and empower people to move their lives forward in a positive direction.

I’m on a mission to bring their services to Northwest London.

To commemorate my Bat Mitzvah, I’d like to raise at least £2,500. This money will create a year long programme for 12 children aged 9-13, in my area. Of course, it doesn’t need to stop there, I’m hopeful that this one programme will be the start of an ongoing project.
