Story

Good evening,

Having kept this one close to my chest for some time, not wishing to tempt fate, I am very pleased to now announce that on Sunday 21st April I will be running the London Marathon.

As you will recall I had pledged to complete 7 marathons in 7 days last September. Regrettably though for various reasons I was unable to undertake that challenge.

I applied to run the London marathon over a year ago as I wanted to set myself a further challenge and continue to support and fundraise for Mind, a charity which is very close to my heart. I am so pleased to have been given a place, more so as during this time both family members and friends have had to deal with some incredibly difficult times and been in need of a lot of love and support from those around them.

In this last year I have attended a mental health training course which has certainly increased my awareness and understanding on the subject when looking for triggers, and for those struggling, offering words of support and guiding them to the appropriate professionals who can offer amazing advice.

Mind are a charity that will always mean a great deal to me. I previously raised over £4,000 for them in 2021 and hope to achieve a further £2,000 through running this marathon.

Mental health is becoming more prominent in all of our lives…social media, work place, at home and more. In October 2023, Norwich City, a club we all know I love and support, released a fantastic video reminding us all to check in on each other and that no one is alone. This is an invaluable message which I totally stand by.

- 39% of all 18-24 year olds experience severe forms of anxiety, depression or stress

- 1 in 4 people experience mental health problems in the UK each year

- 1 in 5 people have suicidal thoughts and 1 in 15 people attempt suicide over the course of their lifetime in the UK

- In the UK, suicide is the leading cause of death among young people aged 20-34 years and for men aged under 50

These figures, in particular for men, are of great concern and it is imperative we keep supporting these brilliant charities so that those we know and love can reach the right support if they ever find themselves going through a difficult time.

I very much look forward to this Sunday 21st April and finishing the marathon. Any donations are massively appreciated!
